Investment Analyst
The Role
Analysts at Catalyst X Value work across the full arc of an investment. In a single quarter you might build the model on a manufacturing recapitalization, sit in on management meetings in Ohio, help draft the memo that goes to the decision table and then pick up reporting for a portfolio company that closed last year.
Much of the work comes down to one question we ask of every business we look at: what single thing is holding this company back? Analysts are expected to have an informed view on it and to defend that view in front of everyone.
You will visit the businesses we look at. We consider site visits part of the training rather than a perk of seniority.
What We Look For
- Fluent written and spoken English, plus professional proficiency in a second language. Continental European languages are especially useful to us, though we will consider any second language on its merits
- Comfort with financial statements and the ability to explain what they mean without a template
- Willingness to say when you do not know something
- Curiosity that extends past finance. Our best analysts have arrived from history, engineering, classics and law as often as from economics
- Zero to two years of experience. Recent graduates are welcome
Compensation
Competitive with New York peers, weighted toward base salary rather than deferred incentives. Detail is shared at first interview.
