Sectors

Where we invest, and why.

At Catalyst X Value, we are generalists by design and specialists by accumulation. Experience in one market has a way of sharpening the questions we ask in the next, which is why we have never organized ourselves into sector silos.

Six areas account for most of what we own.

An engineer at work on a factory floor

Real Estate

Income-producing assets and repositioning situations, concentrated in the Northeast and Southeast. Industrial, multifamily, mixed-use and selected retail.

The work is rarely about the building. It is about the capital structure sitting underneath it, which is usually where the opportunity and the risk both live.

Healthcare Services

Physician groups, outpatient platforms, the administrative infrastructure behind them, and adjacent diagnostic businesses. We invest where clinical quality and operating discipline can improve together.

Reimbursement pressure has made scale necessary for practices that were built to stay small. That transition needs owners who understand both sides of it.

Industrial & Manufacturing

Specialty manufacturers and precision component makers, frequently family-owned and frequently facing a succession question the founder has postponed for a decade.

These companies hold decades of process knowledge that does not appear on a balance sheet. Losing it in a transaction is the principal risk we underwrite against.

Consumer & Brands

Established brands with durable customer loyalty, including divisions being separated from larger parents. We look for products people repurchase without thinking about it.

Specialty Finance

Non-bank lenders, leasing platforms and asset-backed originators. Our capital tends to arrive when a lender's growth has outpaced its balance sheet.

Energy & Infrastructure

Transmission assets, grid services, industrial efficiency retrofits and load management. Long contracts, regulated counterparties and economics that are often unglamorous.

Common Threads

Across every sector, a small number of characteristics keep reappearing in what Catalyst X Value chooses to own:

  • A business with a defensible position in a market too small to attract the largest funds
  • An owner facing a decision about the next decade
  • Cash generation that exists today rather than in a projection
  • One identifiable constraint that capital and attention together can remove
  • A situation where a transaction alone would not solve the underlying problem
